Sally Clarkson is the mother of four wholehearted children, a conference speaker, and author of numerous books, including The Mission of Motherhood, The Ministry of Motherhood, and Seasons of a Mother’s Heart and Educating the WholeHearted Child (co-authored with her husband, Clay). After college, Sally served with Campus Crusade in Communist Poland, and continued in ministry after her marriage to Clay in 1981. In 1994, they started Whole Heart Ministries to encourage and equip Christian parents through books, workshops and seminars, and a ministry website. Since 1998, Sally has ministered to thousands of mothers through her WholeHearted Mother Conferences and online ministries. The Clarksons have homeschooled their four children: Sarah (24), Joel (21), Nathan (19), Joy (14).
ACPEQ’s 10th Annual Conference held in Laval on May 2 and 3, 2008
brought over 700 people on site this
year. Traveling from most of the Québec regions, more than 400 parent-educators
and 180 children participated in the numerous activities scheduled. The Vendor
Hall also included 50 sales representatives who had quality educational
materials to offer homeschoolers.
The plenary sessions and workshops provided during the conference met
the many diverse needs of parents: transmission of values, family dynamics,
learning as a family unit, special needs, postsecondary admissions, learning
how to read and enjoying it… these are only some of the topics covered in about
30 sessions parents could choose from,
according to their interests, in English or in French. For the Children’s
Programme, each child built his/her own birdhouse and participated in a variety
of sports activities. Each of these areas was supervised by responsible adults
and included 90 volunteers, both young and adult.
To top it all off, our very first graduation ceremony recognized the achievement of 24 young adults who have successfully completed high school at home. A dozen of them were present to receive their diploma in person. These young adults are presently in areas of work or postsecondary education in such diverse areas as overseas missions, law, computer technology, pastry, engineering, accounting, tourism, etc. Yes, homeschooling does work!
You may still access the conference brochure for our conference which was held in May 2008 – something to whet your appetite! See you next year in May 2009!
