On November 9, 2017 the Quebec government adopted Bill n°144: An Act to amend the Education Act and other legislative provisions concerning mainly free educational services and compulsory school attendance.

According to this bill, government regulations will set standards for homeschooling by determining the characteristics of the learning project, as well as the procedures for monitoring, evaluating a child’s progress, and determining how the school board is to support the child. Standards shall take into account the instruction generally provided at school and the educational experience involved, as well as the possibility for the child to attend a school.

In addition, Bill 144 introduces the development and implementation of a Good Homeschooling Practices Guide designed to better equip all concerned parties.

ACPEQ will be an active participant in the National Homeschool Advisory Panel provided for in Bill 144.

We will keep you informed of new developments as soon as they become available.
